Soy Innovation Research

Soybeans are one of the world’s most versatile crops. Not only are soybeans a staple ingredient for livestock diets and human foods, their versatile chemical composition makes it possible to replace petrochemicals and other ingredients with soy derivatives.

Innovative companies can produce more environmentally-friendly products without sacrificing performance or price.  This helps to satisfy consumer demand for greener, more environmentally-friendly products.

Soy-based ingredients are found in a wide array of products ranging from paints and stains to adhesives, solvents, plastics, coatings, lubricants, foams, and even tires. Soy plastics are found in automobile and tractor parts, while rubber belts made with soy polymers are found in many draper combine headers.

Industrial uses make up about 7 percent of all domestic soybean demand. The soy checkoff supports innovative research leading to the development and commercialization of sustainable soy-based products, which increases and diversifies demand for U.S. soybean farmers.
